Radium Engineering Catch Can Kit for LS Engines

An oil catch can is essential on your Pontiac GTO or G8 and your Chevy SS, Trailblazer SS or Camaro to protect the engine from elevated levels of crankcase blow-by accumulated from normal wear and tear. Excess oil saturated air circulating back into the air intake stream can lead to degraded performance.

Radium Engineering catch cans come equipped with large 10AN ORB ports, a 4AN ORB drain port, 2-step oil separation baffling, and an O-ring sealed dipstick. These kits provide everything you need for a complete installation. The catch can is installed in-line with a PCV valve, effectively drawing out oil and water condensation from crankcase gases, preventing them from entering the intake manifold. Plus, the closed system ensures that unwanted oil vapors don't make their way into the cabin.

OPTION 1 - CATCH CAN KIT, PCV, GM LS1/LS6 ENGINE, FLUID LOCK

The anodized aluminum catch can bracket mounts to the front RH side of the cylinder head.

Use OPTION 2 instead for the following Gen IV engines: LS2, LS3 and LS7.

Ensure your engine has sufficient clearance in the catch can mounting area before ordering. Refer to the installation instructions for more details. Certain engine setups with additional belt-driven accessories, like aftermarket superchargers, may not be compatible.

This catch can routes inline with the OEM PCV valve found on Gen III engines.

Since 2004, General Motors replaced the PCV valve in Gen IV LS engines with a 2.5mm fixed orifice, likely to reduce production costs and eliminate a serviceable part.

Note: The PCV valve serves multiple purposes in the crankcase: it promotes negative pressure, prevents boost pressure, and in the event of a backfire, stops combustible vapors from igniting in the crankcase.

The PCV catch can kit enhances the Gen IV LS crankcase ventilation system’s performance. It runs inline between the PCV valve and the intake manifold. When the intake manifold pressure nears or exceeds atmospheric pressure, the PCV "check" valve closes, stopping the flow in the hose. Conversely, the PCV hoses experience "metered" vacuum during idling, steady-state cruising, and decelerating, which normally draws in unwanted crankcase vapor, unspent fuel, and oil sludge into the intake manifold after high load runs. Because the OEM 2.5mm orifice port is restrictive, a replacement baffled oil cap is included to draw as much blowby from the crankcase as possible.

Shown below is an A/T Grand Sport Corvette LS3 install. Notice how the baffled oil cap sits above the RH engine cover on wet sump engines.

This PCV catch can kit is compatible with both wet and dry sump engines.
