The Competition Oil Catch Can for Serious Racers
The CCR (Catch Can: Race) Competition oil catch can, designed for serious racers, embodies four key design goals:
Maximize Flow: Primarily a vent-to-atmosphere catch can for racing, it ensures crankcase pressures are minimal without sacrificing air-oil separation performance.
Serviceability: Easily check fluid levels and drain quickly without tools. Lifetime filters are removable for cleaning, and the versatile mounting bracket allows direct removal from above.
Capacity: To meet racing body requirements, the can is offered in a 1-liter (1 quart) capacity, with smaller options of 0.5 liter and 0.1 liter available.
Durability: Built to withstand tough conditions, all components are made from durable, high-quality materials. Like all Improved Racing products, nothing vibrates loose or falls apart under racing conditions.
High-Flow Air-Oil Separator
High crankcase pressures can sap your engine's horsepower. The CCR minimizes pressure drop while efficiently filtering crankcase vapors. Here's the process:
Crankcase vapors enter the catch can through dual -12AN ports.
An impact plate separates fluids from the vapor upon entry.
A large, cylindrical filter cleans the air with nearly 90% efficiency.
A polyester foam filter captures any remaining contaminants before the air exits the can.
In recirculated setups, the foam filter is replaced with an adapter featuring dual -12AN exit ports.
Race-Ready Durability
The CCR's external hardware is custom-designed from scratch (no off-the-shelf parts) and machined from 304 stainless steel for ultimate reliability. Its housing and internal components are made from aluminum to minimize weight. You can count on the CCR to perform reliably on race day.
No Tools Required
The CCR opens in seconds for visual fluid checks by removing a single ball-detent lock pin. The reservoir can be drained by loosening a thumb screw and pulling it out from the bracket above. This design minimizes mounting space and simplifies servicing between sessions
Quick-Release Mounting Bracket System
The CCR's mounting bracket is crafted from custom, lightweight aluminum extrusion. It features three threaded holes for the locking thumbscrew and lanyard nut. With its symmetrical design, the bracket can be flipped for a total of six hardware locations, fitting almost any engine bay. Two 8mm holes are provided to secure the bracket in your engine bay.
Filtration
Maximizing flow was a key design goal. The cylindrical primary filter enhances surface area and is made from 5-layers of sintered stainless steel mesh with varying micron ratings. Custom-molded FKM (Viton®) gaskets prevent contaminants from bypassing. To clean, remove the seals and spray with brake cleaner. The secondary filter, for vent-to-atmosphere setups, is high-flow, high-temp polyester foam. Both filters are washable and reusable, with a spare included for easy swaps.
Application Notes
For forced-induction applications: If using the catch can in a recirculated setup connected to the intake manifold (on the pressure side of the turbocharger or supercharger), ensure to add a check valve before the catch can. This prevents pressurizing the can beyond normal crankcase pressures (1 psi max).
